Federal challenge to religious liberty: Bishops speak out against violation of religious freedom
Of course Catholics believe that contraception, abortion and sterilization is wrong. But that's beside the point. Although we will be forced to fund these services- as preventative services- we need first to speak up about this violation of our First Amendment rights. It is secondary what we believe- the primary focus is that we are forced to give up what we believe.
Catholics can use this as an educational tool AFTER we make it clear that this "interim final rule" is unconstitutional.

Connecticut has good candidates if you know where to look
It should be an interesting day on Tuesday! But unless you look closely, the choices seem nebulous this time around, especially for Connecticut. What about Linda McMahon? She is "personally" opposed to abortion, you know the drill. Her bio declares her Catholic, CINO. But compared to Blumenthal, she's a saint!
NARAL Pro-Choice America endorsed Blumenthal hands down for his championing of women's "reproductive choice" in Connecticut. Blumenthal courted that vote, and unabashedly claims, "I will always stand up and protect a woman's right to choose."
Blogger Juan O'Callahan minces no words about Blumenthal:
Another NARAL endorsement who needs to go is Chris Murphy. Murphy, along with his fellow congressmen (DeLauro, Himes, Courtney, Larson, Dodd and Lieberman), voted 100% pro-abortion across the board. None of them were ever even absent for a vote. They've got some debts to pay, I guess. If we want pro-life representation for Connecticut, we need to vote out all these Representatives!
The only good thing about Blumenthal running is that he'll lose his seat as AG. Candidate for AG Martha Dean is "the most intellectually substantive candidate running for state office inConnecticut , Martha is pro-family and can articulate our values," according to Peter Wolfgang of the Family Institute of Connecticut.

Catholics, hopefully, will not vote for pro-abortion Attorney General Dick Blumenthal. (Blumenthal overrode his own state’s Department of Public Health decision and personally authorized the state’s taxpayer public funding of abortions under the children’s healthcare program Husky B.) Blumenthal would undoubtedly fight to preserve Obamacare intact, probably expanding its abortion-permissiveness roles, and even promoting reinstatement of the currently banned late term D&X Partial Birth Abortion method. And remember the stunt he pulled when Bush pushed through the conscience clause right before he left office? Blumenthal sued the Department of HHS over it.

CT Attorney Blumenthal Sues Department of HHS over Bush's Conscience Clause
Is Attorney General of CT, Richard Blumenthal single-handedly trying to close every Catholic hospital in Connecticut? He is discriminating against people of faith by not allowing them to practice that faith. Women’s health is NOT at risk here: fertility and pregnancy DO NOT require medicine: they are not illnesses. To claim that a doctor who refuses abortion based on conscience endangers women is a smoke screen. Women can then seek a doctor who will perform one! Blumenthal's scare tactics are a shield for his personal prejudice against the unborn and the politics he plays to pander to pro-death groups such as Planned Parenthood. We need an attorney general who knows his facts: in 5% of pregnancy cases or less, the true physical health (due to cancer, diabetes, hypertension, or epilepsy) of the mother is at risk, and no doctor with a conscience clause would allow a woman to die when in need of care.
The people who are truly in danger are those who receive care from these quality Catholic hospitals, hospitals that could be forced to close due to his discriminatory lawsuit. Half of all US doctors are in support of the conscience clause.
It looks like 12 other states will jump on Blumenthal's pro-death bandwagon: Arizona, Illinois, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Montana, New Jersey, Oregon, Rhode Island, Utah and Vermont.
Blumenthal needs to fight for all the people of Connecticut, and listen to all voices in this debate-not just his special interests.
