NFP Poll- please vote!

Does counting days work?
How to save money in healthcare? Use NFP! It's cheaper and more accurate- right?

My little poll in the right side bar here has to do with NFP awareness- how much do you know?

If you want to learn more? Visit ccli.org

Do you know anyone who used it? Or thinks they used it? Get them to answer the poll.

Are you an engaged couple who knows? Are you a single person who knows?

Lots of cool NFP bloggers have been posting about making NFP more accessible to modern young couples.

Let's see where people fall on the scale of "NFP awareness."

  2. I think the problem isn't that people aren't aware of the rhythm method, I think the problem is that people don't understand the difference between NFP/FAM and the rhythm method.

  3. Yes Kate- that's what I'm trying to determine by the poll. So, you believe that people DO know what the rhythm method is, and dismiss NFP because they think it is the same as the Rhythm Method?

  4. From what I've been able to gather, it's a little of both. Plenty of people have no idea how cycles work at all, beyond monthly bleeding. They have no concept of the rhythm method, and think that you can get pregnant literally any day of your cycle.

On the other hand, there are also plenty of people who are familiar with "Vatican roulette" and don't understand how very far NFP has evolved beyond day-counting & guessing.

I think the solution starts with education as early as possible. Cycle awareness is not a religious issue, it's something all women deserve to know about their own bodies.

  5. Amen to that Kate! The earlier the better.

  6. My husband and I just got back from a weekend NFP teacher training retreat, and I'm so excited to get started! More and more, I realize that, as important and beautiful the Church's reasoning is, NFP just fits into so many truths about love, science, and the human person with natural law alone, which I think should hold a lot of weight in a contraceptive world. I'm really looking forward to the challenge of pointing all these truths out in a charitable way. I'd love for you to visit Captive the Heart, my blog for Catholic brides-to-be! http://captivetheheart.blogspot.com

I think that Kate is on the right track...People do not understand the beautiful sophistication of NFP and see it as the Catholic birth control that produces 10+ children. Its unfortunate because NFP really helps woman (and their spouses) understand their bodies, reproduction, and the Catholic faith.

I think NFP is rubbish. Most use it to not have children rather then to conceive. Having children is a blessing from God. This is really nothing to understand other then this is yet another form of control. "Birth control" with a fancy name to make it legit. Give your hearts and trust to God. He alone knows whats best for us.

  10. Thanks for your comment, Anonymous. With so many Catholics completely disregarding Holy Mother Church's teaching about openness to life, I think NFP is an excellent stepping stone to more faithfulness and trust in God. It takes some longer than others, but God does ultimately know our personal path to holiness. Imagine the state of souls if they decided to contracept without the choice of something licit.
